Mental health awareness
Blake Morgan embraced Mental Health Awareness Week’s 2024 theme of ‘Moving more for mental health’ with everything from rigorous sponsored 10k walks to lunchtime mindfulness meanders. We also shared resources including office-based exercises, external events and handy hacks for increasing movement throughout the working day. World Mental Health Day 2024 was themed around prioritising mental health in the workplace, providing an opportunity for Blake Morgan to share resources and policies around mental health. Additionally, to incentivise completion of our 2024 colleague survey, £1 was donated to leading UK mental health charity Mind for every colleague who completed the survey.

LGBT+
Each June we mark Pride Month with articles, events and opportunities to increase our understanding of and connection with the LGBT+ community. For Pride Month 2024 we welcomed representatives from Stonewall, the largest LGBT+ rights organisation in Europe, and produced a special video reflecting on the month and sharing colleague perspectives. LGBT+ History Month was marked by a webinar with special guest, the award-winning and groundbreaking Oscar Davies – the first publicly recognised non-binary barrister in the UK. Oscar delivered an inspiring session that was also recorded and shared on our intranet.

Social mobility
Blake Morgan is committed to increasing access to the legal profession and along with our work experience programmes and Growing Ambitions scheme we are also a partner of GROW Mentoring. We have extended our relationship with GROW, an organisation that supports social mobility, diversity and inclusion in the legal profession by providing one-to-one mentoring, for another two years. We will continue to collaborate with GROW on raising the profile of alternative routes into the profession.

MyTime wellbeing
Through MyTime, colleagues were able to participate in activities which support their personal wellbeing or to organise wellbeing activities for others.

Mental health first aiders
Blake Morgan has a team of 40 mental health first aiders supported by four regional co-ordinators, providing a ratio of mental health first aiders to staff of 1:15. Over the last year we have had 15 colleagues undertake the mental health first aider course and 13 undertake the refresher course which they are required to do every three years.

MyTime faith
MyTime allowed colleagues to celebrate a religious or belief-based festival or event that is important to them.

Supporting colleagues through the menopause
Our trained Menopause Mentors are on hand to provide advice, support or a confidential conversation to help support colleagues going through the menopause.

Informing and educating
We continue to grow our EDI knowledge bank, with resources on faith, family and wellbeing, LGBT+, gender and disability. Our dedicated intranet campaign and events to mark Pride Month helped to build awareness by bringing in guests who shared their lived experiences.  In celebration of Disability Pride Month we hosted a lunch and learn session with representatives from the Minstead Trust, an organisation that supports people with learning disabilities to reach their full potential. September saw colleagues wearing gold and purchasing fundraising pins in support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

She Who
Created to celebrate women’s voices and mark International Women’s Day, She Who has grown into a dynamic community and catalyst for meaningful action. In partnership with PureCyber, The Alacrity Foundation, Tramshed Tech and FinTech Wales, we host events that bring together businesses and individuals committed to driving social change. With inspiring speakers and thought-provoking discussions, the events not only provide a platform for change, they also raise money for local charities.

Celebrating diversity

Our EDI champions and EDI committee meet four times a year to agree and schedule activity within our workstreams.

We run campaigns and events throughout the year to celebrate diversity and to inform and educate our colleagues on topics relating to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We have featured some examples of this activity below:

Working to improve equality, diversity, and inclusion

Blake Morgan is proud to be consistently ranked – for the past eight years - in the Inclusive Top 50 Employers list. A rigorous annual ranking process provides a definitive list of UK organisations who actively demonstrate their commitment to improving equality, diversity and inclusion throughout all levels of employment in the organisation. Blake Morgan is the only law firm to feature in the 2024/25 Inclusive Top 50 Employers list.
